Motorcycles running on fuel and goodwill will call New Plymouth home for a night in November when the inaugural Variety Bike Bash roars into town.

Run by Variety – The Children’s Charity, the bike ride starts in Auckland on November 21 and will travel 1200km, arriving in Invercargill on Friday, November 26, for the iconic Burt Munro Challenge.

New Plymouth will be the first overnight stop on the Sunday as the riders arrive via Auckland and Hamilton. They will then ride to Wanganui, and on to Wellington where they will stop on November 22.

The event is designed to combine “fantastic scenery and great roads” with fundraising for Kiwi kids.

“The Bike Bash is based on Variety’s signature fundraising event, the Variety Bash. After 20 years of crazy cars, fire engines and other vehicles we decided it was time bikers had a chance to join the fun,” Variety chief executive Lorraine Taylor said

A WOMAN who admits going round to another woman’s house armed with a machete and smashing her windows is to be sentenced at Plymouth Crown Court on Friday.

Carol Ruan pleaded guilty to destruction of property at Valletort Place, Stoke, on March 21, and to possession of a bladed article on the same date.

Ruan, aged 43, of Union Street, was granted bail by Judge Paul Darlow, who ordered a fast-delivery report from the Probation Service.

THE Razak Cup received a big boost when 100Plus signed a RM1.5 million three-year deal with the Malaysian Hockey Federation in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

The deal is for RM500,000 per year with RM300,000 in cash and RM200,000 in kind starting from next year.

MHF president Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah and James Teo, the managing director of F&N marketing, witnessed the signing ceremony at a hotel yesterday.

With this latest cash boost, the Razak Cup is set to undergo a huge transformation.

The new format will see teams playing zonal qualifying rounds before competing for the title in the final round.

Teams will be divided into five zones of four each. The zones are North, South, East, West and Central with the qualifying rounds being held on a home-and-away basis.

The North Zone will feature Sabah, Sarawak, Labuan and Brunei, while the South Zone will have Negri Sembilan, Malacca, Johor and Singapore.

The West Zone will be made up of Penang, Kedah, Perlis and Armed Forces, while Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan and Police are in the East Zone.

Perak, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and the National Under-16 team will feature in the Central Zone.

At the end of the qualifying rounds, the top two teams from each group will play in Division One while the teams that finish third and fourth will compete in Division Two.
